Musashi Dining Bar [Restaurant Review ]

Named after the famous Japanese Samurai Swordsman Musashi, I figured that since we reviewed the Samurai Trilogy in film section of this Issue, that we would keep in theme and decided to pay Musashi a visit.

No sign of the famous Musashi however, which must have explained the queue up and popularity out the front of this Japanese Dining Bar. Apparently its aim is to be the

leading Izakaya (Japanese Style Bar) in the Southern Hemisphere! Any hows I wish I knew that bit of information before the waitress let us know about the 20 minute wait and we moved across to the Chamberlin Hotel for a beer (which by the way has been refurbished and just isn't the same with out the Lindy Chamberlin mural). So yeah, enough about Lindy and the dingo and all that and I guess a saki or an "original" Japanese drink would have been good for the wait. But that's okay because the waitress was good enough to give us a tingle as soon as the table was ready. So down went the beer before you could say Teppanyaki and we were in like Flyn!

We were seated at a table for 3, my friend from Melbourne was here for a visit and she loves Japanese, so she was loving it! We all went for the Musashi box meal because we were told that "we had to have it" for its popularity and good value and to tell you the truth it was the easiest option since I was so hungry and taking the time to go through their BIG menu to decide on something would have taken a whole day.

Popular opinion was right and it was great value and the variety that the box offered was satisfying. With a variety of sushi, teriyaki chicken, miso soup and green tea. We also got some soya beans to snack on, which I found to be addictive. The service was good, the staff friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our meal. The atmosphere and overall vibe of the place was nice, the people were a mixed bag. It was not too loud and noisy which was important in my situation where I was catching up with my friend from Melbourne who I haven't seen in a while. The interior at Musashi is casual, modern, presentable and comfortable with a variety of seating arrangements from the bar, booths, small tables, large tables, to out door seating. At Musashi you get all this at a reasonable price, what more could you ask for?

Located on the corner of Pitt & Campbell street Musashi offers good food at a good price, open from Mon - Sat. It is very popular and with the Capital Theatre right next door you could make a night of it! But make sure you get in early or try to book before six or you'll be waiting for a while at the Chamberlin Hotel or miss your show at the State Theatre.
