Toko
Best Sushi bar winner 2000-2001
Award for excellence

Toko is an up market sushi bar aimed to appeal to sushi lovers of all types, and give the customer a sushi conveyor communal table experience like nowhere else. Toko serves up the sushi and sashimi with a menu completely independent and constructed in house with many signature
dishes including lobster inside out rolls,

and the strange Bruschetta Ship, which is a bruschetta that looks like sushi, like totally weird!

Paddington is always a really nice place to hang out and they have some cute places to eat and drink, our friend was leaving Australia to set up a new life in London and we decided to check out this little place on Oxford St (Paddington end) called Toko. This was actually my first time to a Sushi train eatery and a few of our friends had given Toko the thumbs up. I'd say it would be packed out on a weekend but we went during the week and even then it was quietly busy. It has a nice décor and not as generic as your typical sushi train spot, not surprising seen it's in Paddington.

"Incorporating design, lighting, music, a warm friendly service and late night trading hours, Toko has taken the sushi conveyor experience to a whole new level where late night dinners can lounge around relax and enjoy a bottle of red."

We all ordered off the menu to begin with and the portions are plenty enough for even the hungriest of patrons. The one thing I would say is that perhaps the dishes could have a small description, there are certain things I don't eat and who knows what they burry in there between a prawn and a blob of sticky rice, so luckily I was with a few pro's who helped me out.

Toko has two menus available, a sushi and a hot food menu.

The sushi menu consists of 43 different dishes and growing, most of them unique to Toko. The sushi all comes out on the conveyor where patrons simply pick off what they like. The different types of sushi are placed on coloured plates, which represents the prices. The customers then keep the selected plates next to them and are presented the bill at the end of their meal.

The hot food menu consists of a large ranges of entrée sized meals, which include Teriyaki, Grilled Salmon, Soba Duck Soup just to name a few.

All the sushi we had was very nice and the service was very quick and attentive, so couldn't find fault there. The atmosphere at Toko is warm and inviting, relaxing and quite funky. The service is friendly, welcoming and of high standard yet down to earth. My only grudge would be the price but hey what else would you expect from that part of town and it is an up market sushi bar. Would I go back again? Well probably not as I think more can be had for the money but if your local, don't mind paying a little extra then, you'll probably find yourself going back there and mingling with your friends.

Toko is available for private functions and also offer a catering menu for your event function. Toko also offers a catering service consisting of a variety of platters.

Fact: Sushi is a low calorie, high protein food with moderate amounts of carbohydrates and lots of vitamins. Almost no sushi topping is filling or fatty. All are rich in proteins, and some minerals. A typical sushi meal- a combination set of seven to nine meal - a combination set of seven to nine piece - has only three hundred calories altogether. Simply put, sushi is a health food in the truest sense.
